RE: March 12 Update - COVID-19
The Town was informed today of a potential COVID-19 infected adult with active symptoms, and whose children have active symptoms. Out of an abundance of caution, the Town closed the Claypit Hill School early and will not be holding any after-school activities at that school. The Town also closed a nursery school. In addition, the Town will be closing all public schools beginning at the end of the day today for 2 weeks. We currently anticipate that schools will resume March 30.
The Town is carefully monitoring other potential COVID-19 cases. As new information becomes available, the Town will post updates on its website. www.wayland.ma.us
The Town has called an emergency meeting of the Board of Selectmen, Board of Health, and School Committee to discuss the rapidly evolving situation in Wayland, which will take place this evening.
The Town continues to recommend following previously published CDC guidelines on COVID-19 readiness. The Town has also published information for high-risk groups.
All non-essential town business meetings are cancelled until further notice as a precautionary measure. This decision was made after the Governor’s state of emergency declaration and careful consideration of information shared by the Massachusetts Department of Health (MDH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The Town is also recommending that all large gatherings by other organizations be cancelled.
The Annual Town Election is planned for March 31, 2020 and the Annual Town Meeting is planned to begin on April 5, 2020. Currently, the March 31 election will take place as planned; however, we are awaiting further guidance from the Massachusetts Secretary of State. We are also investigating our legal options for holding the Annual Town Meeting at a later date and will continue to keep you informed as details are confirmed.
Please note that Annual Town Meeting Warrants will be mailed to all residents this week and should be kept for use when Annual Town Meeting is held.
Thank you for your understanding during this time of precaution. We are committed to doing our part to help contain and mitigate the spread of coronavirus and appreciate your support
